I have had a passion for the printed word since I first learnt to read, so a love of writing was almost destined to follow. My first published work was a book review for the US magazine Bitch, in 2009. Since then, I have written book and DVD reviews for Bitch, and in 2012 I wrote the 24-piece, 20,000 word “Thinking Kink” series for them. Thinking Kink was read worldwide, and was reprinted by Alternet, Salon and the Polish magazine Forum. I then released a full-length book of all-new material, "Thinking Kink: The Collision of BDSM, Feminism and Popular Culture," published by US scholarly publishers McFarland.
Most recently, I've written ebooks for Open Road Media, project managed the website and social media strategy launch for Dawson Auto Developments, and provided social media PR for the Cannes-selected film Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans.
I regularly review books for the Times Literary Supplement, the Telegraph and the Guardian. I've freelanced for The Daily Dot, Bookforum, Prospect and The Independent. I am an alumna of The Op-Ed Project (Los Angeles chapter) and have written opinion pieces for the London Review of Books, The Guardian online and Telegraph's Wonder Women section. I have been invited to speak on TV, radio and at universities worldwide, as well as presenting at the US Popular Culture Association conference 2014.
Having worked for Ms. magazine in Los Angeles, I have a strong awareness of global political issues affecting women, and have written regularly for the Ms. blog plus their print edition. I also write for the Women’s Media Center.
I regularly write video blurbs, web articles, edit and assist with social media promotion for the BBC's College of Production and College of Technology. I also produced one of the College of Production's podcasts on women in technical broadcasting.
I recently completed the manuscript for my second book To Deprave and Corrupt: Britain's Battles with Obscenity, which is due out in Autumn 2018.
